Honey Badger Knives were conceived in 2014 by our Founder and Head Knife Designer, Marc Ager, who identified a clear need in South Africa for an affordable range of high-quality, practical, and durable everyday carry (EDC) knives. With South Africa’s challenging exchange rate at the time, knife users were actively searching for the best possible value for money without compromising on performance, reliability, or design.

That same combination of exceptional quality and outstanding value soon resonated far beyond South Africa, with demand growing rapidly across the USA, Western and Eastern Europe, the GCC, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, and other international markets. It became clear that knife enthusiasts worldwide share the same priorities: durability, functionality, and honest value.

DESIGNED BY EXPERIENCE. BUILT TO PERFORM.

With over 40 years of experience in the hunting and outdoor industry, a wealth of technical knowledge, and a lifelong passion for knives, Marc spent 18 months researching, refining, and testing his designs. This process led to the creation of the first three Honey Badger folding knives: the Claw, Hook, and Flipper/Drop-Point, which officially launched at the April 2016 HuntEx Expo in Johannesburg, South Africa.

What began as three carefully designed folding knives has since evolved into a comprehensive and highly versatile knife range, trusted by everyday users, outdoor enthusiasts, and professionals alike.

A GROWING RANGE OF FOLDING & FIXED BLADE KNIVES

Today, the Honey Badger range includes:

In 2025, Honey Badger officially expanded beyond folding knives with the release of its first fixed blade knife, the Honey Badger Outfitter. Designed for serious outdoor, bushcraft, and field use, the Outfitter brings the same Honey Badger principles of strength, durability, and value into a fixed-blade format. It is available with three FRN handle colours and a choice of two sheath options, allowing users to select the configuration that best suits their environment and carry preference.

RESCUE KNIVES DESIGNED FOR CRITICAL SITUATIONS

Also released in 2025, the Honey Badger Rescue is the latest liner-lock addition to the range. This large-size folding rescue knife was specifically designed for emergency and rescue operations. Featuring a safe sheepsfoot tip and a fully serrated blade, it is ideal for cutting ropes, seatbelts, clothing, and other materials quickly and safely when time is critical.

The Honey Badger Rescue is available exclusively in large size, making it perfectly suited to demanding, high-risk applications where safety and efficiency are paramount.

LINER-LOCK PERFORMANCE & ONE-HANDED OPERATION

All Honey Badger folding knives are fitted with liner-lock mechanisms, originally invented by Michael Walker. This proven locking system perfectly complements the knives’ effortless one-handed flipper-tab opening, providing fast deployment and secure lock-up.

Our liner-lock knives are offered in Small, Medium, and Large sizes, ensuring there is a Honey Badger knife to suit almost any hand size, task, or everyday carry requirement.

EXCEPTIONAL SMOOTHNESS. SERIOUS TOUGHNESS.

Every Honey Badger knife is engineered to be tough, hard-wearing, and dependable over long-term use. A defining feature of the range is the exceptionally smooth opening and closing action, made possible by two opposing roller bearings containing a total of 18 ball bearings.

The result is a blade action that is almost frictionless, setting Honey Badger knives apart in everyday use. Africa’s toughest knives are also Africa’s smoothest.

ERGONOMIC FRN & CUSTOM G10 HANDLE OPTIONS

A signature feature of Honey Badger knives is the use of FRN (Fibre Reinforced Nylon) handles, available in three sizes and six colours, each featuring our distinctive honeycomb grip pattern. This glass-filled, injection-moulded material delivers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, outstanding resistance to scratching and abrasion, and a secure ergonomic grip in all conditions.

FRN allows Honey Badger knives to remain lightweight, durable, and highly affordable, often outperforming knives with significantly more expensive handle materials.

For users looking to further customise their knife, Honey Badger also offers Accessory G10 handles in eight colours, providing a more premium, customisable, and bespoke upgrade option.

BLADE STEEL OPTIONS

Honey Badger knives are available in three carefully selected blade steels, allowing users to choose the steel best suited to their needs:

• 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel
  A great-value stainless steel offering good edge retention, excellent corrosion resistance, and easy sharpening.
• D2 Tool Steel
  A higher-carbon steel with increased edge retention for heavier-duty use. While it requires more care and is harder to re-sharpen, it delivers excellent performance.
• Sandvik 14C28N Stainless Steel
  A premium Swedish steel known for excellent corrosion resistance, strong edge retention, and ease of sharpening—an ideal balance of performance and practicality.

NEW FOR Q1 2026 – CROSSBOLT LOCKING SYSTEM

The first quarter of 2026 will see the introduction of Medium/Large and Medium/Small Honey Badger folding knives featuring a Crossbolt locking system. These new sizes will sit between the existing liner-lock models, expanding the range to five distinct knife sizes.

Originally patented in the USA over 20 years ago by custom knifemakers Bill McHenry and Jason Williams, this locking system is fully ambidextrous and designed to become stronger over time as it wears in. Its proven reliability and user-friendly operation make it a natural addition to the Honey Badger range.
