Neels Roos
Meet Neels Roos, a dedicated knife maker who turned a hobby into a passion after retiring. With a background in pottery, photography, and collecting rare cacti, Neels ventured into the world of knife making in 2004, teaching himself the craft using online resources. He started by building his own belt grinder and has since mastered both fixed blades and linerlock folders.
Driven by a commitment to craftsmanship, Neels focuses on creating unique, one-of-a-kind knives with full authorship over every detail. In 2009, he began engraving his knives, learning from forums and experimenting with artistic designs that add a distinct character to each piece. His meticulous approach ensures that every knife he creates is a true masterpiece, reflecting his dedication and artistry.
Neels’ passion for knife making led him to join the Knifemakers Guild of South Africa in 2012, where he quickly became an active member. He served as secretary for the Cape Knife Club for two years and spent a decade as secretary of the Cape Knifemakers Guild, contributing significantly to the community.
For Neels, knife making is more than just a hobby—it’s a serious craft that requires careful planning and creativity. His goal is to design and produce knives that are not only functional but also pieces of art that owners can treasure. Every knife Neels Roos creates is a testament to his love for the craft and his dedication to producing exceptional work.
